Flat Roofing

Almost every flat roof we're called to has already been patched by someone else. Flat roofs aren't inherently bad — badly laid ones are. The failures are nearly always the same: not enough fall so water ponds, cheap mineral felt that splits when it moves, or seams and upstands that were never properly detailed.

The three systems we lay

EPDM rubber

A single rubber membrane, ideally in one piece with no seams across the roof. It flexes with temperature, doesn't go brittle in the cold, and a good EPDM roof has a service life north of 25 years. It's our default recommendation for most domestic flat roofs — extensions, dormers and garages.

GRP fibreglass

A glass-reinforced resin laid wet and cured into a one-piece, hard-wearing skin with a neat trim. It's excellent for balconies and areas that get walked on, and the finish looks tidy. It needs dry weather and a competent hand to lay well, which is where a lot of DIY and cowboy GRP roofs go wrong.

Torch-on felt

Modern high-performance felt in three layers is a world away from the old pour-and-roll felt. For the right job and budget it's a reliable, cost-effective covering — and done properly it lasts, unlike the single-layer stuff it's often confused with.

We fix the fall, not just the covering

If your flat roof ponds water, re-covering it without correcting the fall just buys you a few years. Where the deck allows, we build in the right fall with tapered firrings so water actually runs to the outlet. That's the difference between a flat roof that lasts and one that's back on the repair list.
